The prison adoption model

We do not just visit. Through our prison adoption model, a church or team adopts an entire unit and commits to the long haul. This builds continuity, so the work does not stop when one volunteer cannot go in. It deepens involvement, as a whole community begins to ask how else they can serve. And it raises our reputation across the Texas prison system, which opens doors to new units.

How We Fulfill Our Mission

Equip Lay Leaders

We activate existing Christian community leadership, training lay-leaders in biblical, theological, and ministerial education so they can serve as urban saints and warriors within existing congregations and new church plants.

Disciple the Incarcerated

We reach and teach men and women who have been born again inside prison and jail walls, equipping them as Christ-centered catalysts for spiritual transformation who serve as Elders in Prison Church Fellowship and lead House Church in their dorms and cell blocks.

Welcome Returning Citizens

We welcome returning TUMI students to Epiphany Life Change, where they continue their education through the TUMI Capstone Curriculum and carry the Great Commission into their neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities.

The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI Houston)

TUMI is our flagship program and our largest partnership. It offers Christian leadership development, officially certified by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Cornerstone

An introductory discipleship curriculum of a single module that grounds new believers in biblical foundations for life and ministry inside the unit. It takes about one semester and its credits carry forward into Capstone.

The Capstone Curriculum

A comprehensive leadership development curriculum of 16 modules that prepares God-called leaders for effective ministry in and through the church. It takes about four years to complete and carries 32 college credit-hours.

Visit Tumi Houston

Christian Anger Management

CAMP helps participants understand their anger and learn how God expects us to handle it. Students learn practical tools for managing hostile emotions in themselves and in others. Classes are kept small to encourage open and honest discussion.

Climbing Up

Climbing Up prepares students for life after release. We help them set realistic expectations for re-entry, stay true to themselves and to Christ, and set themselves up for success on the journey home. Small groups keep it personal and practical.

The Journey

The Journey is a three-part program: Foundations helps participants repair broken hearts by looking to Jesus; Fragments to Freedom explores how childhood shaped who they are today; and Flourishing restores wholeness in marriages, families, and society.
